"SM Prime Leads the Charge Towards a Greener Future with #SMWasteFreeFuture Campaign"

MANILA – Join the movement! SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime), a leading property developer in Southeast Asia, is gearing up for a game-changing initiative: a united front against waste. In response to the global waste crisis, SM Prime is rallying its property groups and stakeholders towards a common goal – a #SMWasteFreeFuture.

**The Global Waste Challenge**

Did you know that humanity churns out over 2 billion tons of municipal solid waste yearly? Shockingly, 45 percent of this is mismanaged! If we don’t act fast, this figure could skyrocket to nearly 4 billion tons annually by 2050. That’s why on December 14, 2022, the United Nations General Assembly declared March 30 as the International Day of Zero Waste.

**First Steps Toward Zero Waste**

Following suit, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) introduced the First International Day of Zero Waste. Its mission? To inspire global action and turn the world's gaze towards zero waste.

**Building on Strong Foundations**

SM Prime's founder, Henry Sy, believed in a synergy between business growth and social development. This belief fuels SM Prime's sustainability policy, focusing on Resource Conservation and Efficiency, Disaster Resilience, Climate Advocacy, Social Integration, and Transparent Reporting.

**Environmental Initiatives in Action**

At the heart of SM Prime's sustainability efforts are SM Supermalls' Environmental Programs on Waste Management. Through SM Cares, its corporate social responsibility arm, SM Supermalls spearheads initiatives like the Trash to Cash recycling market and supports events like the International Coastal Cleanup.

*Captions:*

- *Massive Impact:* 17,000 volunteers across 15 SM Malls in 12 locations nationwide joined the 38th International Coastal Cleanup.

- *Turning Trash into Treasure:* Trash-to-Cash recycling markets, held every first Friday and Saturday of the month in all SM Supermalls, promote waste segregation and recycling.

**Driving Sustainability in Tourism**

In the hotel and tourism sector, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) leads the charge against global food waste. Their Sustainable Diner Program, in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature, aims to minimize the sector's environmental impact through resource efficiency and food waste management.

- *Sustainability at Scale:* SMHCC's 7Gs (Seven Green Goals) ensure sustainability is integrated into every aspect of hotel operations.

**Turning Waste into Fuel**

To further these efforts, SM Prime has partnered with GUUN Co. Ltd. to implement cutting-edge waste-to-fuel technology. This innovative process converts non-recyclable packaging into alternative fuel, reducing landfill impact.

Join SM Prime in building a greener, cleaner future! Together, we can turn the tide against waste and pave the way for a sustainable tomorrow. #SMWasteFreeFuture
